Statement about the work: I use a butane torch in my work almost like a paint brush with encaustic medium as I fuse one layer to the next. As I was painting with FIRE, I pondered the way that it is experienced physically (as in heat) as well as how we experience FIRE metaphorically. FIRE ignites and powers physical objects as well as impassions and ignites us to create, find purpose, and take action driven by the electrical currents firing in our brain. Thus, as humans, we mirror the external world with our internal power of igniting, conducting, and creating.
