Inner Sun
Description
An expressive sun-face emerges through layers of molten wax, with warmth and presence radiating from every direction. Created in encaustic on cradled birch, this piece carries real physical depth: carved lines, pitted surfaces, and raised honeycomb-like texture give it a tactile, almost relic-like quality. The face feels both ancient and intimate—part icon, part dream, part living element. The palette of golden yellows, amber, peach, and touches of green gives the work a glowing, earthy luminosity, as though the surface has been shaped by heat, time, and light itself. The radiating forms around the face read like sun rays, petals, or flames, adding to the sense of energy expanding outward from a calm center.
There’s something both playful and mysterious here: a sun that feels human, watchful, and weathered, holding warmth alongside transformation. Because of the dimensional encaustic surface, the piece changes as light moves across it, revealing new pockets of texture and depth.
